Version: (using KDE 4.2.96) OS: Linux Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages When I opened dolphin filemanager the first time in root mode it had a search field/bar in the toolbar. I then added some buttons to the main toolbar (up, home, terminal, compare files) and they were not shown in the toolbar. So I dragged the search bar to the bottom of the dolphin window. Which caused dolphin to crash. After a new start of dolphin the main toolbar shows all of my buttons but the search field completely is gone. In the toolbars menu in settings there are listed two toolbars, both ticked but one unnamed. It's not possible to get the search field back.
This is most probably a kdelibs issue (the toolbar handling is not done by Dolphin itself). I faced a similar issue when upgrading my KDE 4.2 installation to KDE 4.3 beta. I asked for help at http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-devel&m=124414293127403&w=2 including a description, but got no reply yet. I've added David Faure to CC, maybe he has a hint.
Following link provided by Peter Penz i managed to restore my search bar by deleting file: .kde4/share/apps/dolphin/dolphinui.rc and starting dolphin again. Before trying it your self first backup bile than delete it.
Yes, thanks, it does work after adding those linkes mentioned in the link to dolphinui.rc. BTW: Great to have that search bar - and even greater that one can add other (textless) buttons to it instead of to the main toolbar as a workaround for too long button descriptions, so one can have buttons with and without text side by side.
