Version: 0.8.4 (using 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4), 4.2.4-2.fc11 Fedora) Compiler: gcc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64 The sidebar always shows the thumbnails when a new pdf is opened. There doesn't seem to be any way to default the sidebar to not show of its elements.
How do you close it? By clicking on the active icon, or using Settings -> Show navigation panel?
By clicking on the icon. I want the sidebar to be shown so that I can select any functionality when I need it.
Is there any reason that the sidebar has 4 icons, and yet, as it is vertical, takes up enough space to show at least 12? Would it not make mor sense for the title to be clickable, or to make the bar into a drop-down box? Why is this a "toolbar" style, and yet cannot be moved?
Yes, i can confirm this. It is very anoying. Everytime I have to hide thumbnails or document tree view. There is no way to disable it forever as default.
#3 please do not hijack other people bug reports. #0 and #4 please explain the exact steps you do to reproduce the problem, what happens and what you would expect to happen, without a clear and exact description of what steps you do and what you'd like to happen is quite difficult to fix anything.
ok, 1] click at PDF file and Okular shows up and thumbnail/document tree sidebar on the left side is opened. 2] click at Thumbnail icon in the left Icon bar (there are four icons) ->thumbnail sidebar disappear. 3] close Okular, click PDF file and let Okular shows up 4] thumbnail/document tree sidebar is again opened => I missing: 1] restore previous state of the sidebar 2] option to let sidebar closed as default
Doesn't 1) already imply 2)?
I confirm this bug - the annoyance of having the thumbnail view always appearing upon startup (unless the document itself contains instructions to open in bookmark view, or presentation mode, for example). It would be useful to have the navigation panel available as a side bar, but for the default state to be that the views be closed until selected by clicking on thumbnail, contents, annotations, etc. For now, I disable the navigation panel and use F7 to make it appear or disappear. At least this state is conserved. Thank you.
Would bug 169142 be a good compromise?
Please try Okular from KDE 4.8.0, it should have this issue resolved, if not please reopen. Thanks for caring about Okular
I can still confirm this behaviour with Okular 0.14.3 using KDE 4.8.3 on Gentoo. Hiding the whole sidebar (F7) works fine (it's not shown again after closing and re-opening Okular) but this bug is about keeping the sidebar buttons without any of the menus "open". Usecase: I *usually* don't need thumbnails, bookmarks, etc. so I close them most of the time (small tablet) but i can't disable the sidebar completely because when I do need them, I'd have to go through the menu to get them back (which is hidden - again to safe screen real estate). Other than that little annoyance, Okular is very touch friendly already and this seems like a rather easy fix.
I really want to vote for this as a bug. As default, such as opening pdfs from web pages, I would like to have the nav bar showing but not see the thumbnails. Reason is that it takes so much screen space & I never use thumbnails. Overall, Okular gets 9/10 - well done. Cheers
I can still confirm this bug on KDE 4.12....
You don't confirm a resolved bug. You open a new one or reopen it. In case of this one, i'd prefer you open a new one since so many people have commented here and said different things that none knows anymore what this bug is about.
It seems that I do not have the permission to reopen a bug. (Or I just cannot find the button to do it). My problem is just like the others: having the thumbnail view always appearing in startup. Here is my proposal on how to fix this bug: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/117432/
Still not resolved in Okular 0.21.3 / KDE platform 4.14.6. What is the confusion? The initial report and comment 6 seem quite clear to me; there must be a gap in communication. The visibility of the sidebar -- not just the navigation panel from which it's controlled -- is a piece of UI state that should be remembered.
Seems to be one of that kind of bugs that are trivial but lasting many years to be closed :)
You all realize you're commenting in a closed bug? If you think there's something yet not fixed please open a new bug and describe clearly what you think is a bug and what you would expect.
Yes I realized that; it seemed more considerate than opening an exact duplicate, and unprivileged users here are unable to re-open bugs. I now see someone has already done this at #344599. Thank you for your attention; I'll echo the sentiment that Okular is a great app, but this little issue has bugged me for years.
