Description Alex Dănilă 2009-07-21 04:32:06 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.2.96)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Debian testing/unstable Packages

With 4.2.96 from Debian Experimental shadows no longer function for all windows. Shadows are only shown for menus, tooltips and splashscreens, but not for standard windows.
Shadows functioned well with 4.2.4 and a few versions before.

Composite is enabled and functional.
The configuration section of kwinrc looks like this:
[Effect-Shadow]
Fuzzyness=25
IntensifyActiveShadow=false
Opacity=0.5
Size=25
XOffset=0
YOffset=3
forceDecoratedToDefault=true
forceOtherToDefault=true
forceUndecoratedToDefault=true

What decoration are you using?
Comment 2 Alex Dănilă 2009-07-21 11:43:11 UTC
Crystal (from Debian, package kwin-style-crystal 2.0.3-1). Changing it makes the shadow reappear.

Looking at the source code it's a decoration bug as it's blacklisting abilities instead of whitelisting them. This means that it is incorrectly announcing support for the new abilities in KDE 4.3 even if it hasn't implemented them.
