Version: (using KDE 4.2.4) Installed from: SuSE RPMs Tabs will be a good option in Kontact for navigating different applications (Kmail, Kaddressbook, calendar etc) just like in 'lotus notes' instead of vertical bar on the left hand side of the screen. wish : Tabs for the applications in kontact for navigation. ----------------------------------------------------- Summary|Kmail|Kaddressbook|calendar|feeds|sync ------------------------------------------------------ instead of Existing : Vertical bar on the left hand side of the screen. -------- |Summary | --------- |Kmail | --------- |Kaddress| |book | ---------- |calendar| ----------
and in KMail you will have : ----------------------------------------------------- Summary|Kmail|Kaddressbook|calendar|feeds|sync ------------------------------------------------------ mail_list|folder1|folder2 ... ------------------------------------------------------ and in akregator you will have: ----------------------------------------------------- Summary|Kmail|Kaddressbook|calendar|feeds|sync ------------------------------------------------------ articlelist|browserTab|browserTab|browserTab ... ------------------------------------------------------ which would be a usability issue. What's wrong with a side bar ?
The problem with the side bar is it is occupying more space on the screen, which is not frequently used. With new kmail appreance (where preview pane is next to message list), most of the space is wasted. If I can hide the vertical navigation bar, then I will get more space for preview pane. IMHO if nested tabs is a problem, I think even konqueror like vertical bar (where it can be hide or occupies very less area) will be a good option.
Created attachment 35475 [details] kontact vs konqueror sidebar You can make the kontact icons as small as the konqueror sidebar ones. See the attached screenshot. Right click/small icons and right click/icons only and you're done.
Looks great, this will solve my problem. Let me try it once, and I will update you with my experience.
