Description ericaltendorf 2009-07-18 18:57:05 UTC
Version: 2.0.2 (using KDE 4.2.95)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Amarok detects my ipod correctly when I plug it in.

When I right click on an mp3 from my local collection and say copy to ipod, it copies the file but pops up an error dialog saying something like "Cannot create symlink /media/ipod/.......kpodXXX.mp3. Please check permissions."

The permissions on the mounted drive are fine, and amarok *did* create the mp3, but for some reason it is trying to create a symlink. Since ipods are vfat filesystems, this strikes me as simply retarded. What is it doing?

The other part about this is if you accidentally try to add, say, 1000 tracks, you get 1000 sequential pop-up dialogs...which means you just have to kill amarok. It would be better to batch up the errors.

Does this still happen with 2.1.1 or better current git master?

Transplanting information from ML:
The ipod is a nano 4g, 16gb, black.

There's no error string related to permissions when copying in Amarok, this is KIO complaining. It's also KIO creating the popups.

It can't both copy the correct mp3 file and have it be a symlink, so which is it?

This looks like a KIO issue, but I'm pretty sure they didn't mean for 1000 popups to come up on a failure. What's the exact text of the error message box?

Run amarok using `amarok -d` in the console, and paste some of the info that gets outputted about copying to here.

I tried around with my ipod in any situation i could imagin copy tracks that are on the ipod and so on. There was no pop up like that.

No comments in a while, was for 2.0.2, marking as fixed, reopen if it's still happening in trunk.
