Description Andreas Pietzowski 2009-07-18 15:43:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.96)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When you have a color-indexed GIF image you have a limited set of colors. When such an image is inside a HTML website it is shown correctly. But when the HTML designer set the width and height of the GIF image to something smaller KHTML scales the image with the limited set of colors of the GIF image. This results in a pixelized image. The missing colors should be generated on the fly to give the user an anti-aliased image.

I recognized that bug with this URL:
http://www.dasoertliche.de
(the second sentence right on the top "Ohne Ö fehlt dir was" doesn't look good)

Firefox displays the image anti-aliased. Compare the results ;-)

This not only affects GIFs, but also JPEG images scaled less than full size, regardless of number of colors.

This screen shot http://i34.tinypic.com/2nq4ajd.jpg shows rendering of Firefox compared to Konqueror on an image (cell phone) that is displayed less than full size. Original page here: http://nokiaexperts.com/nokia-n900-starter-guide/

Firefox, MSIE 8, Chrome and Safari all render properly with no "jaggies".
Kong does not.

KDE 4.3.3 - Kubuntu, (except MSIE).

This bug is still present in KDE 4.4.3 :-(
