Description Marcos David 2009-07-16 12:52:20 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.96)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I've been using KDE4 for quite a while and I am beginning to get disappointed with the direction the project is taking.

There seems to be allot of work going in to creating new awesome features (The desktop is really good and powerful :-) ) but the amount of bugs being reported is increasing day by day...

IMHO there seems to be to much focus on developing new features instead of fixing already existing ones.
I also develop software, and I know it is not easy to do Bug fixes and it is more exciting to develop new stuff.

But if KDE aims at being a truly usable/functional/trustworthy desktop then everybody should concentrate on fixing most of the bugs before creating more features.

I also understand that this is a project composed of many and different applications and because of that things are much more complex.

Hope this gets some attention.
Thans, and keep up the good work ;-)

Some bits to add:

- I agree at some point that I would like more stabilization and polish in all the code, however we are currently lacking some manpower to manage all this, and I don't take the directions of the developement of all the projects that are part of KDE.

- My main work is trying to reduce the bug report numbers of this bugtracker database, which is indeed hard enough and time demanding, and considering this is not the proper place to discuss what you proposed I should close this report and encourage you to use the KDE forums ( http://forum.kde.org/ ) to establish the proper discussion there.

- If you would like to help us, I encourage you to do it!. There are multiple ways to do it (even without need to code) :
http://techbase.kde.org/Contribute
http://kde.org/getinvolved/

Thanks a lot and I hope you got my point.
BTW: you can put the link of the forum discussion here later.

Hi, sorry for wasting your time. :-)

Anyway I believe this is a "bug" with the development and release system.
It should be picked up by someone "above"...

And I am going to do as you suggested and place this on the forums. My only problem is that I can't register... Never got the mail for the account activation (alltough I asked for it several times...)

How can I get in contact with the board administrator since I can't login?

Thanks.
