Description Jonathan Ryshpan 2009-07-16 02:58:09 UTC
Version:           1.0.0-beta2 (using KDE 4.2.4)
Compiler: gcc version 4.3.2 20081105 (Red Hat 4.3.2-7) (GCC)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Compiled From Sources

Suppose an image has ITPC fields Caption="itpc_cap" and Heading="itpc_head".
Slide Show is configured to display the Caption, i.e.
    Settings->Configure digikam->Slide Show is checked
Then the slide show for this image will display the heading, i.e.
    The text at the lower left of the image will display "itpc_head"

Also there doesn't seem to be any way to display the Caption in a slide Show.

This behaviour is the same in digikam-1.0.0-beta2 as compiled from the tarball and in digikam-0.10.0-1.fc10.x86_64

Your wish is my command. Note that digicam calls this info:
        Caption = "Montana - this grows all over the state"
        Headline = "Bear Grass"

Jonathan, the next beta will provide a function "Image->Reread metadata from files" which you can use to reread the correct captions.
Please note that there is currenty very limited support in the UI for the Heading, but be assured it's at least stored in the database ;-)

If this means that a slide show can display *either* the caption *or* the heading, this will not do the job, since the person who did the comments (not me) used both fields indiscriminately. There need to be seperate check boxes in the popup window at:
    Settings->Configure digikam->Slide Show
for displaying the caption and/or the heading independently. Sorry if this wasn't clear in my original posting.

However, please tell me when the next beta is ready, and I will test it.
Comment 11 Marcel Wiesweg 2009-07-29 11:49:46 UTC
Reopening as a wish to support IPTC Headline (not only but especially in slideshow).

Headline is "publishable" and a "synopsis of the content". It does not support multiple languages.
Title is "a shorthand reference", a "verbal and human readable name". It supports multiple languages.

Digikam fully supports the Description, which is what is used normally.

I have just built digiKam 1.0.0 from the tarball, apparently without
problems and have noticed two problems:
     1. The documentation isn't installed.  I suppose it's in a separate
        package. Where can it be downloaded from?
     2. No pictures are displayed. I rebuilt beta2, which (as I
        remember it has worked in the past), but with the same lack of
        results. This makes me suspect that the problem is due to a
        change in Fedora, rather than one in digikam. Up till now, I
        have been using digikam from the Fedora-11 repo, which is
        digikam-0.10.0-3.fc11.x86_64.rpm .  A startup log is appended.

As a consequence, I'm not able to answer your request.

I think so.
