Version: (using KDE 4.2.4) OS: Linux Installed from: SuSE RPMs Filezilla, gftp, and Kftp all crash when downloading a directory that contains sub-directories. Jftp does NOT! I assume this is due to Jftp's use of Sun's Java rather than KDE libs.
What I mean by crash is that the gui vanishes without any error report screen from KDE. So I cannot provide a backtrace.
Sorry, my KDE version is different. It is 4.2.95 (KDE 4.2.95 (KDE 4.3 RC1)) "release 139 I forgot that I had added Kontact, which required an update to some KDE system files and dumped nearly every living KDE program when I did that. :-/
Just to clarify: Filezilla and gftp do not use KDELIBS, I don't know about KFtp but it could be use it proper implementation. (where do you get it ?, I only know about "KFtpGrabber" ) Thanks
KftpGrabber is the long name. All three crash in exactly the same manner on exactly the same items. However, Jftp didn't. My host provider and I have wrestled with this issue for months now. I gave up for awhile. Only yesterday did I try KftpGrabber and Jftp. I have read other issues with Ftp here in KDE. Is there some rationale behind what I've discovered in these programs handling large numbers of files in sub-directories?
If you use Konqueror to access the FTP site, does it works ? Thanks
Access isn't the problem. The problem is that when I ask the program to download a directory that contains many sub-directories and files it closes without warning. I'll try it with Konqueror directly.
First and second tries yielded: The requested operation could not be completed Request Aborted By User Details of the Request: URL: ftp://recraig2.com Protocol: ftp Date and Time: Tuesday 07 July 2009 01:49 pm Additional Information: recraig2.com Description: The request was not completed because it was aborted. Possible Solutions: Retry the request. I didn't do anything after hitting enter.
Ah, that was my fault... wrong password. But why didn't it report that to me? That is a serious oversight. An average user would not understand why.

I dragged and dropped the folder choosing copy and I have two info windows telling me I am copying twice. One is stuck at 0B/s and 0B, the other at 0B/s and 898.9B. They hung for awhile and now read finished. However, the sizes did not change. What gives! The subdirectories have been copied, but no files. Weird! The folder reads 424.0 K, 1 file, 105 sub-folders. On the server the folder reads 794.6K, 172 files, 80 sub-folders. This is very interesting. There are fewer sub-folders on the server than were created during the transfer. I had made sure there was no existing folder by that same name as the mother folder I was copying before I copied it. Bizarre! I refreshed and this time the folder on the server reads 1.7M, 550 files, 114 sub-folders. I wonder what I'll get next time I refresh.
Is that description related to Konqueror ?Thanks
(In reply to comment #11) > Is that description related to Konqueror ?Thanks Window reads at top "Properties for administrator - Konqueror" The folder I am copying is a Joomla folder named "administrator".
This time with refresh 874.3K, 190 files, 78 sub-folders.
Ok, let's order this report. The first thing you reported: several ftp applications vanishing, are not related with KDE. As Konqueror is not crashing. We still have this weird behaviour, so I encourage you to file a bug report against Konqueror explaining the behaviour you got. I'm closing this report as INVALID as it is mixed and the original reported problem is unrelated to KDE official ftp support. Thanks
Ok, do you think this might due to an FTP module, perhaps? Can you give me some idea where to go with the original problem? Btw, thank you so much for working with me. You are quite professional and I appreciate that. I have presented problems in the OpenSuSE forums only to be called a liar or stupid, ridiculed and harassed with no hope of troubleshooting to see where the problem lies with issues. Thank you for a breath of fresh air. I'll file the report on KftpGrabber.
Sorry, I mean on Konqueror.
