Description david 2009-07-05 10:24:54 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Desktop resolution is bigger than what is supported. It is almost twice as wide and a little taller than my supported 1440x900. In the area outside of the 1440x900 it shows random graphics and such, I have to go into resolution settings and change the resolution to a different resolution and then back again for it to go away. Sometimes when changing the resolution it will blank out my desktop and I can not do anything except ctrl+alt+del and log out and back in again. Here is something from the KDE crash handler, im pretty sure it is related to my problem.

Application: Jockey (), signal SIGSEGV

I'm new to linux so I just wanted to add that I have windows 7 installed on my machine, I partitioned my hard drive to install ubuntu 9.04 after which I used the synaptic package manager to install kubuntu-desktop 1.122. I was not having any issues with gnome.

Thanks for your help.

Do you know this application "Jockey" ? because I'm pretty sure it is not part of the official KDE application.
Thanks

I'm not sure about the program. I had gnome installed and the only thing I did was install the kubuntu desktop from synaptic. I have since figured out a temporary solution. I figured out how to changed my resolution (not through xserver nividia) but by display settings. When I restart it still shows up in 2720x1024. which obviously isn't supported by my 17in laptop.

Ok, additionally I fixed the problem, temporarily. I changed the resolution back to 1440x900, but every time I restart it starts in 2700x1250. Any ideas?
