Do you get some error message? Or just no video/audio output at all?

You should looks for user supported at the Ubuntu forums as this seems to be a problem related to Kubuntu (the message about installing "codecs" to be able to reproduce some types of media). Take a look at http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=334 or you can also create an account and create a new thread in the forum asking for help on how to solve the problem.
Thanks!
