Version: 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2) (using 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2), Kubuntu packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.28-13-generic When a KRDC remote session is in full screen it's not possible to get another open window like a konsole or a Dolphin windows in front of the full screen session. Sometimes it works but sometimes it won't - you have to switch KRDC back to screen mode then it will do it for a few times. Cheers, David
I'm not sure if I got the point. In fullscreen you cannot have any other app in foreground of the KRDC window? Isn't that the normal behavior of fullscreen applications?
I don't know if this is a normal behavior ;) I use a two monitor setup. for example I've the Full Screen Remote Session on the left screen and other windows on the right screen. Now sometimes I open another program (for example a new konsole) and it appears on the left screen behind the Full Screen Remote session. And Sometimes it appears in front of the Full Screen Remote Session. For me it would be a nice feature if other windows can overlap the Full Screen Remote Session. So for me now it's not sure if it's a bug or not.
KRDC uses KDE stanard fullscreen functionality... So if you want another behavior, you need to report it agains KWin, the KDE window manager. Do you know any fullscreen app which allows windows in top of it?
Hi! Yes when i used Debian 5 and RDP with full screen i could get other windows on top of it. On a colleagues PC with Windows Vista I tested the Remote Control (mstsc.exe) with full screen and there also it's possible to move other windows on top of the full screen remote session. Let me explain it again with an example: I have a full screen remote session with KRDC. I open a konsole on the local host and the konsole window starts in front of the full screen remote session. Then I work again on my remote session -> the konsole window goes behind that session. Now I switch back to the konsole window with ALT+TAB but it will not appear in front of remote session. I move the konsole window to my other screen (right click on the konsole field in the window bar and select move). And now(!) sometimes I'm able to move the konsole window back to the other screen with the full screen remote session and the konsole window appears in front of the remote session and sometimes it isn't! Again: for me it would be a perfect feature to allow other windows to get in top of the full screen remote session. So you think I've to report this to the KWIN Team? Thank you to discuss the problem :) Cheers, David
This has to do with shortcut capturing again. If the remote desktop session is focused the alt-tab will be sent to that, not kwin. If the little toolbar at the top is focused, alt-tab will go to kwin instead of the remote machine. The best solution I think would be to have an indicator of key capture status, but again I don't know of a good way to do that.
Ok, Tony, I think this is the problem... There would be no problem to indicate if key capturing is on: always when a remove view has focus, it's on. But that is not a solution of this problem. Not sure what is the best solution, since key capturing is required in most cases on a remote deskop. Otherwise things like alt-tab do not work.
Maybe use something like in Sun's Virtualbox. There when you want to release the keyboard capture you press on the right Ctrl key. There's a status indicator for this when in windowed mode. I would have some kind of status indicator pop up when pressing this key and releasing the keyboard capture. We could also have this key user-defined as in Virtualbox. Any other proposals? (Shouldn't this be marked as wishlist? I'm a bit new to the community so I don't feel comfortable making such changes yet)
