Description John Wheaton 2009-06-29 20:55:25 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I looked around in the system settings, but did not find anything to let me specify how long system notifications should be displayed or where they should be on the screen. Of the two parts to this, I'm most interested in the first; the second would just be neat.

My thought would be that there would be a global setting for all notifications which could then be overridden for each individual notification.

That applies to both the display duration as well as the position on the screen.

Thanks!

At least in KDE 4.3.4 (no idea about KDE versions between 4.2.2 and 4.3.4) it's possible to select the screen position of pop-up messages: right click on system tray -> System tray settings -> Information and there you can change the position. I don't know where to change how long the message is displayed.

Are you sure you are talking about the genuine KDE notification system and not the alternative "Ayatana" system introduced in Kubuntu 9.10, which lacks features? I can only specify screen positions for the latter, the KDE notifications always appear next to the system tray.

I'm sorry, you're completely right.
Comment 5 John Wheaton 2009-12-11 19:47:16 UTC
Apparently the "Ayatana" allows position specification. What's the goal with this system -- will it replace (or become) the standard KDE notifications?

Neither one of these allow duration to be specified, which is my primary request here.

I'd really love to be able to specify the position of the notifications. On my setup I have the panel on the left hand side of the screen with the system tray in the bottom. Notifications appear on the left side, but not at the bottom of the screen, but a bit further up -- they seem to be bound to the beginning of the tray, not its end. Despite my special setup I'd still much rather have the notifications appear in the lower right corner of my screen.

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
