Kmail is my favourite mail agent, I'm using it with disconnected IMAP.
The only problem with it is that it's quite slow. At work I am using Thunderbird to access the same mailbox, local copies of the emails used with Thunderbird, too. Thunderbird is however an order of magnitude faster: synchronising my email tree takes about 20 minutes with Kmail and about 1 minute only with Thuderbird.

Could you please please speed up Kmail disconnected IMAP?

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
