Description homoludens 2009-06-24 05:14:19 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.4)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Okular appears to have problems with form fields in Japanese language pdf files:

(1) In some form fields, Japanese text is displayed as jibberish; latin charaters and numbers, however, are displayed fine.
(2) In some form fields, ALL text is displayed as jibberish.
(3) Clickable fields are not displayed correctly (The underlying text can't be seen; perhaps the fields are too large, or should be transparent.)
(4) On the printout, some fields retain borders that shouldn't be printed.

I can provide relevant files at request (the original, with some form fields filled in, a copy of the printout).

Hi,

as said in bug #197693, a first suggestion is to update to the last stable version of poppler (0.10.7 for you).

I recall this as already reported problem for Poppler.

> (2) In some form fields, ALL text is displayed as jibberish.

Most probably another Poppler issue.

Don't undeestand, could you provide an example for this issue?

> (4) On the printout, some fields retain borders that shouldn't be printed.

This is another Poppler issue, to be reported on the Poppler's bug tracking system.

(Thanks for the help. I can't upgrade Poppler right now -- see my comments under Bug 197693 -- will get back to you as soon as I can.

As for (3), if the form fields are not activated, you can see Japanese characters at those spots:

Once fields are activated, some big input boxes cover the Japanese, see here:

If things worked alright, these boxes should be transparent so that you can still see the Japanese text underneath. Clicking into the boxes would add a check mark at the respective place, which currently doesn't seem to work.

Since everything else is Poppler related, I would assume this one is, too, so I'll wait until I can upgrade.

Cheers

Just noticed that I can't paste images in BBCode here. Here are the links to images:

Can you still reproduce this issue with a newer version? If so it'd be great if you could send me the file with the problem.

Thanks for caring about okular :-)
