Version: 1.0 (using 4.2.90 (KDE 4.2.90 (KDE 4.3 Beta2)), Kubuntu packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.29-02062904-generic ALC888 Analog sometimes crash, switches to another and then the sound doesn't play from any source. It do mainly with very nice but buggy Amarok 2.1.1 but not only with it.
What do you mean with "ALC888 Analog sometimes crash" ? Is a KDE application really crashing with a situation related to that sound card/configuration ? Do you get a backtrace / the crash handler dialog? Or do you mean the sound stop playing or you hear a noise ? Regards
No response. Marking as NEEDSINFO
I mean.... I open Amarok, play few songs well, after (or in the middle etc. of) random song, knotify manager informs me that it had to change the output from ALC888 Analog to something else (in my laptop it is HDMI output - i got nothing connected via it). And then logicaly I hear nothing from my speakers. I cannot understand why it does, because before it changes it, the sound plays very well. It does also with ALC883 Analog on my desktop PC...
Same problem here on KDE 4.3.1 on Arch Linux 32 bit. My sound disappears completely if I relogin into my system and my ALC888 Analog switches to ALC888 Digital.
Works with KDE SC 4.4. Relogin does not loose sound.
In my KDE4.4.1 the error messages (switch to digital etc.) are still (althought not so often) but the music plays without interruption. But sometimes it doesn't play the sounds even without these error messages so I am still (and now even more) confused about sound in KDE4.x...
So I have to update the problem. I have PulseAudio installed, but not prefered in system settings. I start Amarok, sometimes it works OK, sometimes it doesn't work with the error message e.g. "Device for music playback (ALC888 analog) doesn't work, switching..." I found that it switch to PulseAudio, whitch works properly BUT even I have everything on max in alsamixer/kmix, I have to unmute sound manually via PulseAudio mixer. This had to be done after every restart of the OS. Without this (and without PulseAudio mixer installed-it is not installed by default) the audio seems doesn't work. But it works, just is muted in the PulseAudio mixer.
ok, seems solved in 10.04, thanks
