You need to enable digikam's debug messages (code 50003) using the "kdebugdialog" utility. Do I understand you correctly that the problem is only present if you run digikam as your normal user, and it works if you run as superuser? Have you verified that you dont have two different versions installed?
New digiKam 4.11.0 is available. https://www.digikam.org/node/740 Can you reproduce the problem with this release ?
