Description Jedd 2009-06-17 19:27:46 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Caveat - still tracking this down, so open to suggestions here.

Background - I noticed in KPhotoAlbum (KPA) (4.0.1) that ships as part of Debian unstable that the global shortcut of ctrl+shift+left / ctrl+shift+right - usually used to select a word in any text-based application - was being hijacked.

I tracked this to KPA - under KPA | Settings | Configure Shortcuts. A quarter way down the setting 'A tool to rotate/flip images without losing quality', under the Global Shortcut for same, was using this key combination.

Removing this global shortcut resolved the problem (of not being able to select word-by-word in ANY application while KPA happened to be open somewhere on the desktop).

Discussed on the KPA list, and the primary author suggested the problem lay with KIPI. I've had one other confirmed sighting of the problem off the same list, but had no joy getting any comments from the Debian-KDE list. It's possible that people don't keep kipi-enabled applications running while they do something else(?). It's also possible that it's a Debian packaging issue - but those guys tend to not fiddle with these kinds of settings on the way through the packaging process.

Andy,

This is always true with current implementation ?

This is no global shortcut, at least not on my system. When I switch to OpenOffice for example while KIPI apps are running, the rotation plugin is NOT triggered.

1. Is this still a problem?

2. If yes please attach your version of $KDEHOME/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc with KDEHOME usually $HOME/.kde or $HOME/.kde4.

I did some more research on this, the following is the outcome:

- It seems this happens only in certain situations, not on default installations
- it seems somehow the keyboard shortcuts for the kipi-plugins are set as "global" shortscuts in addition to the normal "local" shortcuts in KIPI/KPhotoAlbum
- My Ticket is actually a duplicate of Ticket https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196902
- Changing the assignment in the global KDE settings dialog did not work for me, it did re-display the old assignment again afterwards
- Also changing the assignment of the "global" shortcuts (the third column) to "none" in the settings for keyboard shortcuts in KPA is reverted back as soon as I restart KPA, why that is I cannot understand.

so I am stuck here, there are all the options to change these assignments available everywhere, but none work, which is very annoying :(

kglobalshortcuts

I can see this bug on Kubuntu 12.04.2 LTS with KPhotoalbum GIT version

commit b31c4a1bf5e338f06f7ea53d3ba68060876f63ee
Author: Jesper K. Pedersen <blackie@kde.org>
Date: Thu Mar 7 11:19:31 2013 -0800
    removed profiling debugging output

The global+local KIPI shortcuts are visible in KPA -> settings -> configure shortcuts

I also tried to trigger it with Gwenview but I wasn't able to see options for KIPI plugin shortcuts there at all.

kglobalshortcutsrc attached.
