Version: 0.70.90 (using 4.2.90 (KDE 4.2.90 (KDE 4.3 Beta2)) "release 139", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.1) Compiler: gcc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.30-41-default I can't get my UVC Logitech QuickCam working with Kopete. When I open the settings window, most of the time I only see green horizontal lines instead of the video stream. Now and then, the video stream is shown, but so saturated that it's actually worthless. Trying to reduce this saturation with Kopete's controls doesn't work. My webcam does work with Skype, luvcview, etc. Below I pasted the relevant parts of the output of hwinfo and lsusb, and attached a couple of screen captures.

could you also provide the output of kopete in a console ? dmesg could be of help too.
When the green lines appear, there is the following output on the console: VIDIOC_ENUMSTD: Invalid argument VIDIOC_ENUM_FMT: Invalid argument VIDIOC_ENUMSTD: Invalid argument VIDIOC_ENUM_FMT: Invalid argument

Hmmm, I did not see you were using openSuse packages. Is there a way you can activate debug information on the kopete package ? Is there any kdenetwork-dbg or kopete-dbg packages in the openSuse repository ? The error messages you see are totally normal and won't help in fixing this bug. Could you also post the output of luvcview ?
>Is there any kdenetwork-dbg or kopete-dbg packages in the openSuse repository ? well, I don't know if there are such packages available and I won't be willing to install a whole KDE developing version for the time being. >Could you also post the output of luvcview ? sure, here it is: ---------- luvcview 0.2.4 SDL information: Video driver: x11 A window manager is available Device information: Device path: /dev/video0 Stream settings: Frame format: MJPG Frame size: 640x480 Frame rate: 30 fps Cleanup done. When you find time, install kdelibs-debuginfo, kdebase-debuginfo and kdenetwork-debuginfo. They are present in the same repository as the ones you have already installed. Without that, it will be hard to solve this issue.
>When you find time, install kdelibs-debuginfo, kdebase-debuginfo and kdenetwork-debuginfo and then? should I paste here the konsole-output?
Yes, from the top.
I installed the debuginfo packages, restarted the KDE-Session but no extra information is given, just the lines posted above: VIDIOC_ENUMSTD: Invalid argument VIDIOC_ENUM_FMT: Invalid argument VIDIOC_ENUMSTD: Invalid argument VIDIOC_ENUM_FMT: Invalid argument two positive things since the update to kopete-4.2.90-84.5 (in opensuse notation): 1. the controls to adjust brightness etc. now work and I can get a decent picture. The quality however, isn't as nice as in Skype or Ekiga, perhaps they use some noise-reduction filter. Does kopete support video plugins? 2. the problem with the green lines occurs only the first time you open the camera configuration window. If you close it and open it again, then it works (but you need to adjust the default values of brightness etc. to see something).
uvcvideo is weird. My iSight camera uses uvcvideo and works just fine. ;(
@Alvaro: Are you still experiencing the problem with the green lines? If not, can we close this report? If the video quality is still noticeably poor relative to other applications with the same hardware, but it does work, that might be best saved for a separate report.
Under KDE 4.6 beta 2 kopete doesn't recognize my webcam at all anymore.
(In reply to comment #16) > Under KDE 4.6 beta 2 kopete doesn't recognize my webcam at all anymore. Please open a separate bug report for this issue, thanks. (In reply to comment #0) > Now and then, the video stream is shown, but > so saturated that it's actually worthless. Trying to reduce this saturation > with Kopete's controls doesn't work. Image controls have been reworked/fixed in KDE 4.4.0. If you still encounter a bad image quality, please post a kernel bug report at the linux-media mailing list. (In reply to comment #0) > When I open the settings window, most of the time I only see green horizontal > lines instead of the video stream. This is the only remaining issue and there is a good chance that it is fixed since KDE 4.4.1.
