Description bugsrep 2009-06-13 07:34:59 UTC
Version: 0.8.3 (using 4.2.3 (KDE 4.2.3), 4.2.3-2.fc11 Fedora)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i586

I scanned 4 pages using xsane and saved them as a multipage PDF. In Fedora 10 I had no problem printing it to PDF file from Okular because this reduced the file size.
As soon as I did a fresh install of Fedora 11, this error message appears when I try to print the same document: Could not print the document. Please report to bugs.kde.org. The new printed PDF file is created but it has zero size.

Which printer did you use? A real one or a "print to PDF"/"print to PS"?
Also, please execute kdebugdialog and turn on the okular's debug areas; then run okular from a terminal, do the same operation you did, and attach the output you get.
Thanks.

I used a "print to file (PDF)" printer.

1. I opened a console window.
2. Typed kdebugdialog, then typed okular in Search. The following checkboxes were already checked (true): 4700 okular (app), 4710 okular (Poppler), 4711 okular (Spectre), 4712 okular (XpsGenerator), 4714 okular (DVI), 4714 okular (TIFF), 4715 okular (OooGenerator). The result of the next steps did not depend whether I pressed OK to save these settings or I kept the KDebugDialog running.
3. In another tab of the terminal window I entered: okular my_scanned_doc.pdf
4. Immediately this message was printed in the terminal: okular(2439): Attempt to use QAction "bookmark_action_0" with KXMLGUIFactory!
5. Running this again showed the same message with a different number that was greater than previous each time.
6. In okular I pressed File->Print, changed Name to "Print to File (PDF)", hit the Print button.
7. After a second this message window appeared: Error - Okular. Could not print the document. Please report to bugs.kde.org.
8. UNFORTUNATELY no other messages were printed in the terminal window.
9. I closed Okular and no messages again.

Did I do something wrong with kdebugdialog?
The original pdf file was created by xsane as a multipage PDF. In Fedora 10 I had no problem printing such files from Okular to reduce file size while maintaining reasonable quality.

Hmm, are you sure you applied the changes in kdebugdialog?

I hope applying changes means pressing Apply. :)
Yes, I did it.

Does this still happen to you? Can you try with KDE 4.5? It should give a better indication of what the problem is

No answer from the user for almost a year, will consider its fixed. Please reopen if you can still reproduce the problem and have the asked information.
