Description Stephan Kleine 2009-06-11 19:17:41 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

The preview in the "Windows" section in the "System Settings" (lower right corner) doesn't reflect if the "Blend title bar" or "Show stripes" checkboxes are ticked or not.

@christoph
this is also different from 70349 and only affects the oxygen/ozone deco, BUT:

i'd vote for just dropping the preview and apply changes directly (w/o even the apply button? maybe w/ a slight delay on the decostyle combobox) to the real deco

(this is really not the kind of heavy stuff that would require some extra preview and for a "normal" amount of windows probably not notably slower than the preview anyway)

any thought anyone? yesno?

The preview is really broken and we should think of something better for 4.4. My idea would be to have the preview in the dropdown (perhaps as static pixmap) and to get rid of the preview widget.

Then, could this be a duplicate of bug 180100 ?
Comment 7 Thomas Lübking 2009-06-12 15:27:15 UTC
hard to say (and depends on the intention of the original poster)

- fact 1: the preview widget is "broken" as is does not (easily) catch updates on the deco custom settings
- fact 2: the oxygen/ozone preview is a little more broken, as it doesn't paint these stripes on active windows from the beginning on (ever?!) - given the little "war" that there was on all this, this might be "protest", though ;-P

the bugs are however related and given the mixed up comments and performed dupe marks, i wouldn't want to decide where to assign which

however, martin and myself already agreed that the preview needs a more "conceptual" fix

There are two bugs described here

1/ that the ozone default setting is not reflected in its preview appearance
This is "fixed" in kde4.4 and trunk: no more Ozone, and no more stripes next to the title. The default oxygen settings are (afaik) reflected in the preview.

2/ changes made to the decoration configuration are not visible in the preview. This is an upstream bug that affects all decorations settings (except the window border).

I didn't know that kwin is an upstream to Oxygen :-P

Btw I have a new, unfinished implementation for the decoration kcm which provides up-to-date previews.

Oo. It is! kwin provides the API on which oxygen windeco is based. No ?
And yes, I remember hearing about your new preview on IRC. I'm eager to see it :)

Bulk change: move all KWin kcm bugs to product kwin
