Description Hans-J. Ullrich 2009-06-11 09:28:17 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.4)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Dear maintainers,

I am not able to get any messages spoken(!) by kde4.2

I am using speech-dispatcher in kde. Speech-dispatcher itself seem to work fine, as it is running perfectly from the commandline by using spd-say.

Maybe I have still a configuration problem? Are there other ways to use kde4.2 with speech output? In the past I used kde3.5 with kttsd, which worked perfectly, and if I understood it correctly, speech-dispatcher shall be the substitute for kttsd.

Please feel free to ask for more information.

Thank you.

Just a little comment: kttds is still available on KDE4, I don't know if "SpeechDispatcher" is related to KDE or if it will became the new application.

KTTS does not yet support Speech-Dispatcher. You will have to configure KTTS to use festival or another supported backend manually for now.

Reassigning, and marking as a wish.

Here's a blog post I just made on the progress, hehe.

Dear maintainers,

uninstalling speech-dispatcher again and a whole update of all packages seem to solve this problem. KDE4 is now speaking messages as wished.

So I suggest, to close this bug.

Thank you very much for your help and hints!

Cheers

Hans

closing as bug reporter got it working without speech-dispatcher, 4.4 will still very likely use speech-dispatcher, but it's not a bug =)
