Version: 4.2.3 (using KDE 4.2.3) Compiler: gcc 4.3.2 OS: Linux Installed from: SuSE RPMs Consider this HTML: <html><head> <script type="text/javascript"> function neverending(){ while(true){} } </script> </head><body> <a onclick="neverending()">Click to freeze</a> </body></html> After clicking on "Click to freeze", Konqueror gets unresponsive, and there is nothing the user can do except kill Konqueror. Both Opera and Firefox lets the user escape from the testcase: Opera's user interface is not affected, and Firefox pops up a dialog window after 11 seconds asking to terminate the script. The testcase might be considered a reduced version of: http://htmlfive.appspot.com/static/primes-bad.html Konq should not crash, no matter what garbage input it encounters, right? Well, what is really the difference between a crash (dies and disappears by itself) and a freeze (having to kill it yourself)? Both may result in lost work. I would say there is no practical distinction, and so the javascript programmer is not to blame here.
