Description Alexey Shildyakov 2009-06-09 12:05:28 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

I have some plasma widgets installed on my Desktop.
I have 2 System language at first (in the original order):
-Russian
-US English
Then I add Japan language and switch to it. Then I switch to Russian language. But some labels on widget not change and now it is in Japan. Following examples describes it:
Parley widget. Settings. All label in Japan lang:
- Choosing dictioanry file
- Set first and second lang
- Define interval to change words.
But some labels are in Russian such as:
- Setting for widget "Parley" (Настройка виджета "Parley")
- Choose language (Выбор языка)
- Choose font (Выбрать шрифт)
And label in "Add widget -> Install widget -> OK [button]" is Japan label.
I delete System lang Japan but nothing change.

M... Nice... I found new example.
When i open "System settings" window name is "System settings" in English, but now System language is Russian! OK. Then I open "Language and Standarts" (named now on the Russian Языки и стандарты) and return to the main page of "System settings" dialog but now window named "Параметры системы" in russian language.
This label changing is also changes in system tray.

It's not linked with changing lang to Japan.
I change language to US English. Then restart KDE. All is OK. Then I change to Russian. Restart KDE. And I see label in old lang again. In Parley widget it is now English. Old what I switched on.

I couldn't reproduce with 4.4 branch, you should check with 4.4 RC

Please reopen if still valid with kde 4.4.4 or 4.5beta
Comment 4 Alexey Shildyakov 2010-06-07 10:40:08 UTC
Yes. It still exists in KDE 4.4.4. It may relates only to Russian language because I have the following switches:
Russian (label on the first Parley settings is English) -> Japan (label now Japanese) -> English (label now English) -> Russian (label now Japanese).
The language settings after the last switch are:
- Russian
- English (USA)
- Japanese
It's not only for Parley widget. I look at Search file indexer Strigi. When it started the notification was in russian language, when it stop after successfull indexing the notification was in japoanese language.

I tested these behavior in new user.
The language settings are:
- Russian
- Japanese
- English (USA)
Strigi has the same behavior. The start notification in russian language, the finish in japanese. And when I add Parley widget the first settings inlay in japanese but other inlays in russian.
When I delete other languages so the language settings contain only russian language, the bad language switch from japanese to english.

I think it's related to a fallback language. When the translated text on current language cannot be found the fallback language is used. But it's strange because in first case I think I have english fallback language but it shows in japanese.
Could you check if the Parley widget has translated to russian settings dialog and if the Strigi notification on successfull indexing has it too?
