Hello,

in the current kde4.3 beta notifications have become very "brief" so that they are actually useless. If for example I start two copy jobs using dolphin. Both jobs just copy some files from one local directory to another. The notifications then show me two running jobs in form of a progressbar above the "i" icon. However there is no other information provided, so I cannot say which progress bar shows the progress of which copy job? I also cannot stop one of the copy jobs if I want which is a must have. And there is no display of how many files/directories are still left. So actually everything is missing you need to have, makeing the progess bar completely useless.

Another problem with current solution is, that one can either choose to automatically close each notification after a while or you can choose to close them manually. Since there are many possible notifications and some of them are less unimportant but others are important I would vote for a way to treat different classes of notifications in a different way in repesct to the fact how there are closed. E.g. a notification of kmail that it requestets access to kwallet should be closed after a while since I can see the kwallet window in this case so I know what to do. On the other hand copying files to my USB-stick I want to see the progress so this notification should remain visible until I close it manually or until the copy jobs has finished. At the moment such a konfiguration is impossible, but I think its important for usability to be able to treat different notifications in a different way. Especially copy progress is very important and at the moment its treated very poorly.

Thanks
Rainer

Some of the problems you described should be fixed already at KDE4.3/4.4 - Can you check that ?

Yes things have become much better. The only wish left for me would be an adjustable period of time before the information dialog is minimized automatically after it popped up informing about some action. For me it vanishes very often some seconds to early.

Ok, that wish is filed under bug 178411 and bug 186547. If you agree I can close this report as FIXED.
Thanks
