btw, plasma comes up again within seconds, but it doesn't do a trace of the problem with the new kde crash handler that I can commit.

Try this:
- Start Konsole
- Run "kquitapp plasma-desktop"
Plasma will close
- Run "plasma-desktop"
Plasma will restart
- Now reproduce the crash.
Plasma will crash.

Hopefully you will get the crash handler dialog. Thanks
