Description Dmitriy 2009-06-06 20:50:43 UTC
Version: 0.8.4 (using KDE 4.2.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

I've just upgraded my KDE 4.2.3 to KDE 4.2.4 from debian ustable. Okular doesn't print any documents (.pdf, .djvu) to my HP LaserJet 1018, but it does it to pdf. All other KDE applications do it correct. The same thing was in KDE 4.2.3. But in KDE 4.2.2 it works at the very beginning. It seems to me that the problem may be somehow connected with the new versions of HP printing utility. Now I use kpdf instead of ocular. It works fine. Also there were problems with okular in KDE 4.2.2 connected with printing of more than one page per paper list. It refused printing. And page orientation of printing settings was changed. I used portrait when I needed landscape and viceversa. Now I'm using HPLip Software version 3.9.4b and Device manager version 15.0.

Please post the output your get when running okular from a console and then printing. Make sure that if running `kdebugdialog` you have all the okular debug areas enabled.

Here is the output from terminal during printing:

geser@asus-f3tc:~$ okular
usage: lpr [-cdfghlmnpqrstv] [-#num] [-1234 font] [-C class] [-i [numcols]]
[-J job] [-Pprinter] [-T title] [-U user] [-wnum] [name ...]

Can you paste the output of
dpkg -l cups-bsd lpr lprng
?

I've changed lpr with cups-bsd and everything works fine at the moment. Even those bugs with paper orientation disappeared. Smth is not right with debian lpr package I think.
Comment 6 Pino Toscano 2009-06-16 16:32:30 UTC
Unfortunately, detecting the variant of lpr is not possible (no command line options/arguments which can make it output version info), thus it is (sadly) up to the distros provide the right lpr (CUPS' one) by default for Okular.
Sorry.

I'm of the same opinion. That's why KDE 4.2 is still in testing and unstable.
