Description John Ladan 2009-05-31 04:45:19 UTC
Version: 2.0.0 (using KDE 4.2.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

The tool options panel doesn't remember its position when switching tools.

To recreate this, move the tool options pane to the top (from the bottom). Then switch to another tool. The tool options panel will be back at the bottom. If you switch back to the first tool, the options panel will jump back to the top.

I understand some of the reasoning for this, because different tools have different panes, but it is disruptive.

Note that this also happens in KWord and Karbon. I haven't tried it with the others yet.

It's particularly annoying when it causes the tool panel to jump. Although, the layout that causes that is less likely.

I'm also not sure of the proper term: panel, pane, dock, or something else? Sorry if that causes confusion.

I can confirm this bug. (2.0.0 using KDE 4.2.3 and KDE 4.2.91 - Arch Linux) I was actually looking for a bugreport about the 'Tool Options' docker (that's the word, I think, you were looking for) but I guess this one has to be related.

The problem I had was, when using Split View in Kspread, switching focus to another view resulted in flickering dockers. The content of the Tool Option docker got mixed up for a moment with the content of any other docker next to it, regardless of the position (top, bottom, middle) of the Tool Option docker. The problem didn't occur when the Tool Options docker was removed.

Switching views and tools after each other results in even more problems. In the end I got several Tool Option dockers. This problem occurred in Kword as well where the increased number of dockers resulted in a window that didn't fit on my screen anymore.

Maybe Bug 164626 is interesting as well.
