Description Janet 2009-05-23 21:34:41 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.85)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Using Amarok 2.0.90: The player buttons at the top left corner of the amarok window hinder the workflow. The amarok window has a side were you do something, which is the right side with the playlist, and a side were you just look for information, that's the left side. It's inconvenient to travel all the display diagonal from bottom right corner to top left corner just to reach for those control elements. From usability point of view it would be more handy to have those buttons below the playlist - or even better: let each user decide where s/he wants to have those control elements. Those buttons should behave like a normal toolbar and be resizable, movable, configurable.

Janet: you can use the buttons in the panel on the lower right side, too: just click on the Amarok icon

Sorry, I don't understand. I don't have an amarok icon at the lower right side of the window.

Janet, I guess Myriam is referring to the Amarok icon that sits in the system tray. Myself, I don't have it enabled, and I also don't have a system tray at that place, my panel with the systemtray is at the top of the screen.

I too would prefer the control buttons below the playlist at the right, I feel uncomfortable with the buttons at top left (that's why I don't use itunes in Windows). When I look at my stereo the control keys are also either below the playing module (tape deck) or at the right side of it (cd player).

Apart from that I prefer KDE applications over GTK applications because I can tweak their toolbars to my needs.

I see. No I don't use the amarok icon either, I don't like when I close an application and it stays active in the tray. And I also have the systemtray at the top of the screen. So offering controls via a systray icon is no workaround for me. There is space enough in the icon toolbar below the playlist, it really would be great to be able to add other buttons to it like those controls. If it's just for design the buttons at the top could stay, they don't hurt, but there really should be the option to additionally have the controls somewhere else, maybe in smaller size.

Amarok 2.9.71+: The main player toolbar can be dragged to select location at top or at bottom. Additionally, player controls can be shown inline for currently playing track in playlist by editing playlist layout. I guess this is ok enough nowadays, closing.
