Version: 0.70.2 (using KDE 4.2.3) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages How to reproduce: Connect to Windows Live Messenger service. A contact bombards you with Buzzers.(using kopete) Knotify4 starts displaying a vast amount of notifications. On my dual core, this isn't really a big deal. On, let's say, a Pentium 3, even faster computers, this could make kopete, knotify, plasma, etc unusable :s Knotify4 took 850MB RAM the last time we tried to reproduce it. Kopete should have an option, restricting the amount of notifications/user. A number you could set, so knotify can only receive a certain amount of notifications for one user. This is reseted when the user put focus to the contacts window. With one exeption, the notification that someone has buzzed you, so the notification without the show/ignore buttons, should have an restriction as well. This notification should only be able to popup once per contact until this contact has said an amount of real words to you. Isn't this also a knotify4 problem? Should i do a second bugreport for knotify4? Becouse, even for 40~50 buzzers, 850MB memusage by knotify, is much, no? :) and even after closing al the notifycations, knotify is still 850MB big :)
I think this is a serious problem... a remote computer that can make a single process hundreds of MB big in a few seconds, using only official kde software...
.
There are a few problems with the new notifications in KDE 4 with regard to Kopete. I'll have to investigate to see what i can fix on the Kopete side and what needs to be fixed on the KNotify side and update this bug appropriately.
Notification pop-up windows are also a problem in plasma 5, I set them to the left, where they are less annoying and still annoying if there are many, a limiter of pop-up windows for notifications would be needed for plasma 6, I limit it to a max of 2 boxes at a time and I'm happy.
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
