Description Janet 2009-05-16 14:37:44 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

The konqueror sidebar doesn't remember the size the user gave it, after closing and reopening the browser it again has its standard size. This affects the expanded sidebar and the collapsed one.

When I save the konqueror webbrowser profile with an expanded sidebar dragged to usable width it keeps the sidebar's width. But when I close konqueror with collapsed sidebar in this case it starts with a collapsed sidebar that has the width of the configuration button (not shown) which is about twice the size of the icons. The expanded sidebar has the user chosen width.

When I save the profile after I have dragged the sidebar to a convenient width and collapsed it, on reopening konqueror the width of the collapsed sidebar is "only" 1.5x the width of the sidebar icons (which still is 0.5x too wide but not that wide as the configuration button) and the expanded toolbar is - default narrow size.

Concerning the width of the collapsed sidebar konqueror sidebar needs to be expanded once after each konqueror start to shrink the width of the folded sidebar to tight fit icon size (of course it's just a quick double click but nonetheless it's a little annoying). Without that it grows a little wider every time I restart konqueror until it nearly reaches 1.5x icon width.

Concerning the width of the expanded sidebar it only remembers its size when I save a profile with expanded sidebar - but that sets the width of the collapsed sidebar to configuration button size. So both problems seem to be linked somehow.

Expected behaviour:
The size of the collapsed sidebar always should be as tight fit to the icons as possible as long as the configuration button isn't shown (well, it also should be with configuration button shown but the width of the configuration button is discussed in another report if I remember right) and as long as the user hasn't chosen a wider size. The widht the user has chosen should always be restored.

The size of the expanded sidebar should always be remembered and never get back to default size once the user has given it a custom width. Maybe this can be stored in the profile but it should also be stored there if the profile is stored with collapsed sidebar.

I can confirm this bug with KDE4.4 on OpenSUSE 11.2 x86_64

It seems to be fixed in 4.5.1? After I opened the history in the sidebar, dragged the sidebar to desired width, saved the konqueror profile and closed konqueror, the next time it started with collapsed sidebar and when I opened the history in the sidebar it had the correct width, in closed and open mode.

But it did NOT work when I didn't save the profile after I adjusted the with of the open sidebar and it also did NOT work when I closed the sidebar after I adjusted the width and saved then. The trick really is to adjust the width, leave the sidebar open, save the profile, close konqueror with open sidebar.
