However when trying to log in to Picasa, I always get redirected to the login page although the credentials are valid and do work in Firefox. http://picasaweb.google.com/

I can confirm that. Same problem here: The post values are not encoded before sending, so if you have any non ASCII characters in you username/password you can not log in. Created a patch. Thomas

This has been resolved a long time ago already, and Picasa has been transformed into Google photos for some time now 😌
