There's an effort to create an alternative to last.fm called libre.fm. They are trying to implement the AudioScrobbler API. 

In practice that means you can send the scrobbling info you send to last.fm to libre.fm aswell. 

It would be great to have some sort of multiscrobble support so that you can scrobble both to last.fm and libre.fm (and other sites supporting the audioscrobbler api) if you choose.

Because libre.fm is made of free software, it might also be a reason to give it some promotion.
