Description Mark A. Taff 2009-05-11 06:56:28 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I have two folders exported via NFS from my server(columbia). The are both accessible from my laptop(pacifica) via the cli and from konqueror. In dolphin, only one is accessible. This also affects the desktop folderview. Folderview says that only root can mount it, even though any user can.

The good one is columbia:/home that gets mounted at pacifica:/columbia/home. It is 10.0 GiB, with 82.6 GiB free.

The bad one is columbia:/common that gets mounted at pacifica:/common. It is 175 GiB, with 58.2 GiB of freespace. Dolphin notes this info properly, both in the status bar and in the properties dialog. But the file view is just empty, and the status bar states there are zero items. In reality, there are 19 folders and 23 files in that folder.

While testing for this bug I noticed that if I open pacifica:/common with Konqi, then `killall -9 dolphin`, and then reopen dolphin that dolphin will then show the folder as expected. Without restarting dolphin, it would not show that folder's contents.

Thanks!

I have a problem which seems to stem from the same cause. I open a second pane and point it to an empty folder. Then I mount an iso onto that folder but Dolphin keeps showing the folder as empty. The only way to persuade it to show its contents is by closing and re-opening it. Something similar happens when I see a folder through a link (in a folder view plasmoid i.e.) and the folder is updated by Ark spilling the contents of a gz archive into it. Dolphin keeps showing the previous contents of the folder.

Accessing NFS mounted directories (including automounted) is handled in the same way as local file access as far as KIO and Dolphin is concerned; that is, by the 'file' ioslave. The NFS ioslave in kio-extras provides access to remote NFS servers (without the need for mounting) via URLs starting "nfs://host/".

Reassigning to frameworks-kio/general.

Is this still an issue?
