Version: 1.11.3 (using 4.2.3 (KDE 4.2.3), Kubuntu packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.28-11-generic Ever want to send a quick email and it takes ten minutes to write the first four or five words? Started up kontact and kmail started to read the 40-ish email in the pop3 box and started doing something that ate up over 50% of the CPU and had the disk drive going crazy for ten minutes.
It happened to me also. While unable to reproduce reliabily it, a strace showed that kmail is rescanning all messages in all mailboxes when this happens.
Same observation as Fabio Coatti. Always happens when starting up KMail. I believe that it first appeared after upgrading from Kubuntu 8.10 to Kubuntu 9.04. My workaround is to start up KMail and do something else for 10 minutes until it finishes.
I can confirm this behavior for KMail 1.11.4 in Kontact 1.4.4, Debian unstable.
I cano confirm this bevahior for KMail 1.12.2 on Kubuntu 9.10 and think it could be a duplicate of bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172519
Confirming the same behaviour on OpenSuse 11.2 KMail 1.12.4.
