Description Dotan Cohen 2009-05-09 21:11:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I have my contacts' names stored in Hebrew. When I type in the name of a contact into Krunner and select "send mail" the address of the contact is correct, however, the name of the contact has a question mark in place of each letter.

For instance, if I open Krunner and type "אייל גולן" and then click the option to send mail, this is the address in Kmail:
???? ???? <ayal.golan@gmail.com>

I can confirm this following the example above and using KDE 4.2.3. If I select the mail adress from within kmail, everything is displayed correctly.
Comment 2 Dotan Cohen 2009-06-21 13:14:05 UTC
The issue persists in KDE 4.3 as well.

Having the same problem. It's not a kmail bug because selecting the recip in kmail doesn't generate the same problem.

Additionally, if one configures a different default email client (Thunderbird for instance) the bug still occurs. So this is a krunner issue, not a Kmail issue.

This could be an encoding issue. Are you using UTF-8 for the non-Latin characters?

Has anyone had the same problem with Spanish and German special glyphs?

Yes.

If you post some names with examples, I will create dummy contacts and check here.

I use UTF8 and have some names in my address book containing german special glyphs ("Umlaut").
The example i checked:
- surname "Kühn" entered in KRunner
- selected the "write email" entry in the results
- the then launched kmail message window contains an address line with the mail address and the firstname, as well as a additional "To:" field containing "=?utf-8?q?K=EF=BF=BDhn?=" (the surname)
Comment 8 Dotan Cohen 2009-08-27 11:10:25 UTC
I made a new contact named "Kühn" with a dummy email address. Pasting "Kühn" into krunning showed the name just fine, but the email in Kmail is addressed to "Khn".

This problem still exists in KDE SC 4.4.3 (Archlinux).

I have my contact names in Greek and when I press Mail to I get ????? ???? as name.

Thanks.
Comment 12 Myriam Schweingruber 2012-05-26 00:58:20 UTC
Is this still valid with KDE 4.8.3 or trunk?
Comment 13 Dotan Cohen 2012-05-27 09:17:43 UTC
I can confirm that the issue is still valid in KDE 4.7.4.
Comment 14 Myriam Schweingruber 2012-05-27 10:12:44 UTC
Thank you for the information, Dotan, but to repeat my question: anyone who has KDE 4.8.3 who can confirm this?
Comment 15 Alexis Ntounas 2012-05-27 12:41:37 UTC
I don't have this problem any more with KDE 4.8.3 (Archlinux).
Comment 16 Myriam Schweingruber 2012-05-27 16:45:14 UTC
Thank you, Alexis, closing then.
