Description Stefan Brandner 2009-05-06 22:40:39 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.3)
Compiler: gcc version 4.3.2
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I used the password za3b5! for my gmx account. The password was saved within kmail.
The password was working fine with my pop account but did not work with my SMTP account.

As soon as I save the password in the SMTP setup I got a message from the mail server "invalid username or password".
After I removed the save password tick, kmail asked for the password during sending and then the password did work.

I tried this several times then I changed the password to za3b5E and all problems
disappeared.

I have exactly the same problem. My password starts with !
If I enter password in opened popup IMAP and SMTP works fine. If I save the same password next time when kmail is opened it reports about invalid method or wrong password. If I change password (which does not start with !) on mail serve everything works fine. Kmail version is 1.11.3 (using KDE 4.2.3)
KDE Wallet is disabled.

Thanks.

Try to use kwallet, is far more secure than saving them by kmail.

i have the same problem with a '!' in imap passwords with kubuntu jaunty. the same for opensuse 11.1.

i do not use (and would like it not) k-wallet. at the end of kmail (or contact) i am asked whether the password in the configuration file should be saved, which i acknowledge.

the next time you start kmail (or kontact) an error message appears, that the password is incorrect. i set the password in this dialog again and the password remains valid until the end.
