Version:            (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

1. Open Konqueror
2. Window -> Split View Left/Right
3. Window -> Split View Top/Bottom (splits the right side)
4. Select the upper most view on the right side
5. Window -> Split View Left/Right

The entire right pane will reset to two vertical panes.  

Though it's impossible to split the upper view vertically, it's possible to split the lower view.

Thanks for the bug report! The issue is known already. It will be fixed in KDE 4.2.3, to be released this week.
