I have had this problem since first upgrading to kde 4; when I visualize the source code of a web page, moving to a high column count (some thousands) kate becomes extremely slow, to the point that it requires several tens of seconds to highlight a short string of text.
It works as expected in the same file and even the same line at low column numbers, though.
