i go to "next unread message" by hitting "+" (my keyboard shortcut for that) and kontact crashes.
seems to be no relation to number of mails in folder, or size of mail.
backtrace:

Eine korrekte Rückverfolgung ist nicht möglich.
Wahrscheinlich sind die Dateien Ihres Systems in einer Weise erstellt worden, die eine solche Rückverfolgung (Backtrace) nicht erlaubt. Oder der so genannte „Stack Frame“ für das Programm wurde durch den Absturz unbrauchbar gemacht.

If you can reproduce the crash at will, may you read http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports and post a complete backtrace here?
You need to install the "kdepim4-debuginfo" and "kdepimlibs-debuginfo" packages.

i can't really "reproduce" the bug but it happens about once every 30 mails... or in other words twice per hour on busy days.

it happens totally random.

I open a mail and it crashes... i restart kontact, open the same mail again, and it works fine.

I haven't seen any common factor in those crashes, other than that the mails are on an imap server.

Thank you for your report. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained and the code has changed sufficiently in Kmail2 so the backtraces are not really useful anymore. Should you experience the same crash in Kmail 4.8.5 or later, please open a new report for Kmail2. Thank you for your understanding
