Description vatbier 2009-05-01 13:52:48 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs

Mandriva Linux 2009.1
KDE 4.2.2
Amarok 2.0.2

Amarok drove me mad by not wanting to scan my collection of mp3s.
I finally figured it out why:
in Amarok->Configure->Collection: in the Collection Folders you have to click exactly on the little blue icon next to the folder where your music mp3s are. Then the Apply button becomes pushable and Amarok can scan your collection.

Clicking on the name of the folder does not work!
It is not at all clear that you have to press the little blue icon next to the folder.
Selecting the folder (=clicking on the name of the folder) which covers it with a blue line should enable the Apply button.
This is really a bad interface problem.

It's actually a double click that will open the tree...Just clicking on a folder would of course not select it, else you would have far too many folders elected by default.

This bug is about usability for all users in the world, WORKSFORME does not fit. I know of at least one other person who found this annoying. Maybe we're the only two in the world or not?

I can't remember if I double-clicked (not at home right now), but I must have to navigate to my mp3 folder.
For me one click selects a folder, not a double click.
I can't remember how Amarok works, are you saying that a double click enables the Apply button for you?
Will check this tonight.

At home now: Amarok:Configure Amarok:Collection: double-clicking only opens the tree but does not enable the Apply button.

So changing back status from RESOLVED(WORKSFORME) to UNCONFIRMED.

I am sorry, but you really misunderstood what I said:
selecting a folder by clicking on it's name does not work and will not, there is a checkbox you have to click on.
Enabling what you whish to have would add far too easily non desired folders for many people.

Double click opens the folder tree, but does not choose a folder neither.

Use the checkbox, it is there exactly for this purpose, no need to reopen this bug.

My apologies,

the problem lies with Mandriva's laOra-Qt widget style. When I change to Oxygen style the configuration panel of Amarok nicely shows checkboxes in front of the directories when configuring my collection.
Known bug in iaora-qt style, it's fixed already, pending an update pushed for Mandriva 2009.1.
