Version: 0.10.0 (using KDE 4.2.2) OS: Linux Installed from: SuSE RPMs Often, when preparing for a slide show you want to reorder some of the photos of an digikam album. Sorting photos means usually to rename them, since usually photos are sorted by their filename. What I would like to have is a tool that helps me in changing the sort order by simply dragging a photo from one position to another. So this tool could look like a light table showing photos of an album in their natural sort order and then allow me to drag eg a photo from the end to the beginning. As a result this photo just dragged to the start should be renamed so that digikam as well as regular file browsers now show this photo before all others in this album.
See also http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91562 which is one of the top rated wishes ... ;-) Personally I am unsure about the renaming aspect, because different orderings might be needed for different slideshows; eg.: best of the year or best of nature etc., which might have common pictures, but in different orderings. To me a virtual ordering for a given tag seems more powerful. Also one could try to just use the normal icon view and drag-and-drop for re-ordering to not have another separate tool.
The idea of a virtual sort order is certainly a good idea. But since one might also want to use one specific ordering in other tools than digikam or you really want to change the sortorder in your album, I think there should be a way to "export" a virtual sorting to make it also physical. Think of a situation where you and a friend of yours were on holiday come back with lots of photos and you want to share some photos of each other. You probably want to insert the photos your friend offers you at the correct position into your own photos. This should in my eyes not be virtual, because it probably won't change any more afterwards and you want to see this sorting also if you look at your photos by just using a filebrowser. So I see a need to be able to create a permanent ordering as well as several virtual ones.
I also miss this feature a lot. There is some possibility to sort order in Advanced Slideshow, though I didn't find the way how to save sort order permanently, so it's quite useless. Then it's possible to change sorting through the Batch Rename tool which's quite awkward becouse there are no thumbnails just the file names. I would like to have possibility to sort images anyhow I like just by drag&drop in album view. Then in menu I would like to have possibilty to "Save file order" into file. Like we have music playlist here we can have image sortlists. Digikam shoul be able to load this list any time in the future and also would be able to use it in slideshow, image gallery creating and so on. There definitely has to be a way to rename images phisically according to sortlist in order to keep sorting when displaying image from other applications then digikam.
kipi-plugins supports custom drag-n-drop right now! How hard would it be to implement this feature into the Albums interface? I (and many others I'm sure) would really appreciate this feature!
