Description Tres Finocchiaro 2009-04-29 03:08:46 UTC
Version: 4.2.2 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian stable Packages

Ubuntu 9.04 x86

System Settings --> Regional and Language --> Keyboard Layout --> Enable Keyboard Layout --> Advanced --> Alt/Win Behavior

Option: "Left Alt is swapped with Left Win key"
Expected behavior: Remap Left Alt to Left Win key and Visa-versa.
Used for: Making a Mac keyboard behave like PC keyboard or visa-versa.

Actual Behavior: On a Mac keyboard, the "Commmand" key works as expected and takes the place of the ALT key. This is tested with ALT+TAB which correctly switches between windows, or ALT+D which navigates to address bar in Firefox Web Browser.

The "Alt/Option" key shows as series of boxes and does not inherit what was previously mapped to "Command" key. If WIN+R was binded to "Run Program" dialog, this shortcut will break. Additionaly if WIN+D was binded to "Show the desktop" this shortcut will break as well.

Prior to change, the ALT and WIN (Command) keys worked as expected. After enabling the above option they do not. If the check box is unchecked, keys go back to their original settings after restarting the X-Server, or restarting the computer.

Reassigning bug.

I have duplicated this behavior on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop (non-Macintosh keyboard) using identical steps above. Kubuntu 9.04, x86

Unfortunately I can't reproduce it here on Mandriva 2010.1 Beta. If it turn this option the Alt and Win buttons are swapped appropriately.

I'd suggest you may try to update the xkeyboard-config package (in some distros it's packaged as x11-data-xkbdata) - maybe your key definitions is out of date.

This bug is year old so hopefully it's not a problem any more. I could not reproduce it on my machine but if you still see it please feel free to reopen and provide more info.

Bug appears for me specifically when re-mapping the shortcut after swapping. I use the "show desktop" icon as an example, as it's a frequently used icon on most desktops I've used and Win + D is the desired shortcut.

This bug still exists on my recently upgraded Kubuntu 9.10 --> 10.04 KDE box.

I can download the latest Mandriva and Kubuntu live CDs, but it will take some time before I can post confirmation.

I do think that closing the bug may be premature but as recommended, I will reopen if I can reproduce.

I've downloaded Mandriva 2010.0 (where's the beta on the site?) and the bug was still present.

However, Kubuntu 10.04 32-bit live cd seems to have it fixed as suggested. Here are the screenshots to support:

Kubuntu 10.04:

As recommended, I'll reopen if the issue is present after updating packages.

Well, if latest Kubuntu does not have this problem my suspicion is that it was fixed in latest xkeyboard-config. You can either try to update this package to latest version in your current distro, or also try Mandriva 2010.1 RC (http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2010.1_RC#Availability)
