Version: (using KDE 4.2.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages 1) Hover the mouse cursor over the Kickoff icon, so that it displays it's tooltip 2) Click the icon to dismiss the tooltip and open the menu 3) Now move the mouse cursor over a different widget on the panel. -> The kickoff menu will stay open, and after a few second the tooltip for the other widget will appear. At the same time, a large hole appears in the Kickoff menu. Note that the hole in the Kickoff menu is the same size and shape as the Kickoff tooltip. I.e. when the new tooltip appears, it seems to think the Kickoff tooltip is still being shown and tries to erase it.
isn't x.org just *wonderful*?

I have no technical opinion on x.org due to lack of technical knowledge, and I would be very happy to remain that way :). If you're blaming my driver in particular, I should confess that I'm running on Intel 965 graphics, which have numerous corruption/stability issues in Kubuntu 9.04. Because of the stability problem, desktop effects get disabled by default. I still see corruption, of the "uninitialized data appears in new^Wredrawing windows" variety. But this bug looks like something different, at least to the uninitiated such as myself.
Apologies for the noise. Jonathon from Ubuntu pointed out this is simply a subset of the known tooltip bug. I can confirm that I am also suffering the more general symptoms. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 177959 ***
This is clearly a Xorg bug, I was able to write a xlib-only testcas (as I was asked for), but then nothing happend. If you want this bug fixed, please vote for it and make some polite noise at: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22566
