Description George Machitidze 2009-04-23 11:43:12 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
Installed from: Unspecified

Hello,

For country Georgia there is incorrect setting in regions:

In numbers:
 Number positive sign: $0
 Must be empty

In money:
Positive and negative currency sign symbol is set to "after quantity money", must be "before quantity money"

This is very critical issue because users cannot see number in correct way...

Do you have any reference that verifies what you say? Not saying you are a lier, but having a good reference makes for us that don't know much about Georgia making the change much more easy.

Hi Albert,

It's easy to check if you know where is it set in source files, problem is that I don't know where is this configuration stored in sources :)

Current number positive sign: $0 means that for "10MB" string user sees "$010MB", you can see it in every dialog window, when copying files, watch filelists etc...

If positive and negative currency sign symbol is set to "after quantity money" it will display "10- USD" instead of "-10 USD", also not so comfortable...

I see it in Fedora and Opensuse as far as I am working on it (since KDE 3.1), I don't think that there is special patch in those distros that will make changes like this... So, I guess it's in KDE sources...

I guess you have KDE, so, please just select georgian and you will see it, what's the problem? :)

What i mean is: Can you can show me an "official" paper (maybe something from the Georgian goverment) that says "-10 USD" is the correct instead of "10- USD"

You can trust me:
1. I am coordinator for i18n http://i18n.kde.org/team-infos.php?teamcode=ka#translators
2. There is no off. document for this in Georgia yet, so I cannot provide you any
3. There is no info: who said that must be "$0"?
4. Example for currency: http://ka.wikipedia.org/wiki/ქართული_ლარი (Word "ლარი"="lari", currency of georgia)
5. If there is any ISO standard for such things - please check

hey albert...
I'm curious are you really kidding?...
Who the hell said (and when) that negative numbers must use their sign at the end?...
Can you understand that: "-10" and "10-" are completely different things?...

    don't know much about Georgia

Albert, please notice, we don't care how much you have heard about our country, we don't care where did you learn that negative numbers must contain their signs at the end, the main thing is that there is a damned bug and it should be fixed asap.

I am from Georgia and I can confirm the bug George Machitidze has filed!

@xokaido, being agressive does not help.

Guys, now that i have some georgian around, http://l10n.kde.org/stats/gui/trunk-kde4/essential/ shows georgian translation could welcome some help.
Comment 10 George Machitidze 2009-10-03 13:48:01 UTC
Albert,

Sure, now I'm working on it to have more easier for users to translate and manage:
I use SVN/CVS for KDE, Opensuse & Fedora, but I want to switch everything into one application - http://transifex.org/ that is installed on my server. Currently I am testing it.

You know, it's pretty hard to check all the files with diff/merge tools...

So, following steps left: Correct regionals in KDE, include bitmap fonts in distros (almost ready), translate minimal package so users can see it in their distros, provide transifex.

p.s. as coordinator - I don't want to include current translations directly - cleanup isn't made yet and translation is very dirty + as I see there was pretty bad migration since KDE 3.x. So... Waiting for you :)
