Version: 0.70.2 (using KDE 4.2.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages Hovering over the options to Open Message Instantly or Use Message Queue both have tooltips that are very similar to the app options. I suggest: Open Messages Instantly [Incoming messages are displayed in the chat window, opening a new window or tab if necessary] Use Message Queue [Message notifications stack up until you act upon incoming messages] Also, what is the point of a Queue if its NOT referring to the unread messages? When would someone want to queue messages if they've already been read?
Jan Ritzerfeld had written (why isn't it on this bugreport web page?) : " Well, the definition of "read" was the problem some years ago: | [...] The tray only flashes on unread messages from the view of kopete. | That is, a message is read when it's displayed in a chat window regardless | wether the user was able to read it or not (e.g. chat window on other | desktop and/or covered by other windows). http://www.archivum.info/kopete-devel@kde.org/2005-04/msg00311.html IIRC, the tray flashing and the bubble worked only for queued messages. Thus, an option was needed to queue unread messages, too. HTH, Jan " I wrote back with: " Maybe that could be clarified by changing it from "Queue unread messages" to "Show only first new message from each contact" or something (maybe more succinct)? It's tooltip could then be, [When unchecked, every incoming message will have a notification]. It would be a reverse of its current functioning, but I think it would clarify the purpose of that option. " HOWEVER, I think I am still misunderstanding the meaning of the Message Queue, since turning off the option "Queue unread messages" doesn't at all limit the notifications to a single incoming message per contact. With and without that option checkmarked, it seems to me that the behaviour is the same. The bug report was to clarify the meaning of these options better, but perhaps the options themselves could be improved to just have the first incoming message pop up?
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
