I was fluffing the nest, changing views and folders and stretching fields in Dolphin when it died, sorry can't be more specific.
Using Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10.

Found Dolphin through Synaptic Package Manager.

What is your KDE4 version?
Lots of similar crashes seem to be fixed under KDE4.2
