Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

In the send email dialog, the change image properties fields should be activated∕deactivated according to the corresponding checkbox settings. 
This would make the usage of the dialog box a bit more intuitive.

please reopen if this is still valid for you with kipi plugins 0.4.0 or newer

Problem not reproducible with new Send by Mail tool implemented in digiKam core with next 5.7.0
