Description Unknown 2009-04-19 20:11:23 UTC
Version: 0.3 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I tried to install gmail plasmoid using the 'Install New Widgets (Download New Widgets)' button of 'Add Widgets', but it failed saying the following errors:

"Installation of /tmp/kde-musthafa///101229-gmail-plasmoid-0.6.3.plasmoid failed!"
"Installation of /tmp/kde-musthafa/// failed!"

Then I tried to add the gmail widget and I got the following error:

"This object could not be created for the following reason:
Could not create a python ScriptEngine for the gmail-plasmoid widget."

Then I tried to uninstall using the same 'Get Hot New Stuff' window and it says it got un-installed. But in the 'Add Widgets' list, it still shows the gmail plasmoid, and also the un-install button in 'Get Hot New Stuff' has changed to install !! So now there is no way for me to un-install it.
So I tried to re-install it again, but got the same errors as above. Then I tried to uinstall it again and got the same problem as said above.

Please help me in getting this plasmoid working or atleast in getting it completely removed from the system?

Thanks a lot...

I'm also receiving the same two error messages ("... failed!") when I try to install or update new plasmoids via "Get Hot New Stuff", so I'll confirm this issue.

I'm using Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.2.2, but I've been having this issue since the first KDE 4.2 update from the Kubuntu 8.10 experimental PPA. Whether it's an issue with KDE or Kubuntu (are the other reporters using a different distro?) I'm not sure.

Is there a good way to get debug messages from the Plasma "Add Widgets" dialog? I'd like to post some.

I also receive the errors described above. I've tried installing 4 or 5 different plasmoids, they all failed. I noted that some plasmoids were written in Python, 1 was in Ruby, and another in JavaScript.

System:
Ubuntu 9.10
KDE 4.2.2
Qt 4.5

I receive the same error messages, when I try to install Plasmoids via GHNS. But after running kbuildsycoca4 the plasmoid is available and works fine when adding it to the desktop. Same occured with different plasmoids on various installations of Kubuntu 9.04. Note that installing those plasmoids with plasmapkg doesn't returns error messages and works fine too.

Is this related to bug 187436 ? Thanks

I still have this, KDE 4.3.2

I have a whole bunch of plasmoids that I cannot uninstall. Some of them I think had an "installation failed" message.

Others, due to the lack of any GUI interface for removing, I tried to manually uninstall before I knew about plasmapkg. I probably deleted the relevant files in ~/.kde/share/apps/plasmoids.

Now, it is impossible to remove these. I cannot work out where "plasmapkg" and the "Add widget" interface is getting this list from, but it contains items which cannot be removed. "plasmapkg -r <foo>" just says "Removal of <foo> failed", without any explanation.

OK, I found it - removing the relevant files in ~/.kde/share/kde4/services/ removes the plasmoids from "Add Widgets" etc. The plasmapkg tool is nontheless rather unhelpful and unfriendly - it doesn't give any reason why something has failed (e.g. if you try to remove a globally installed plasmoid, you get the same error message).

Can you reproduce using KDE 4.4.4 or 4.5beta?
Comment 10 Luke Plant 2010-06-07 19:52:56 UTC
I do not know if I can reproduce this still - I need an example of a plasmoid that fails to install, and I don't have one anymore.
Comment 11 Nicolas L. 2010-06-15 23:14:54 UTC
just reproduced with http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/gmail-plasmoid?content=101229

i have the error message but the plasmoide is well installed
Comment 12 Thijs 2012-01-02 13:40:32 UTC
I cannot reproduce this one anymore, but that's probably because gmail-plasmoid is installable as it is. Is this still a valid bug?
