I probably should have chosen 'kcmshell' rather than samba config.  Sorry!

Usual setup with non-root user (in wheel group) running KDE.

Set up Samba and put this in for Sonos:

public = yes
writable = no

Use KDE Control Center to make /usr/share/audio sharable.

Use "Advanced" settings to allow non-home dirs shared. Also restrict to group "wheel"
(My wheel has root and myself in it.)

Click on the directory and "Change..." button to see what might want changing.
